Continental Christmas Markets
This time of year comes around so quickly. Before you know it, you’ll be opening presents with the family and over-indulging in roast turkey with all the trimmings. Nevertheless, the build up to Christmas is often chaotic. This year, take advantage of the French Christmas markets and enjoy a productive and fun packed festive weekend away.
Lille market is one of the easiest to get to. You can get there by sorting out your European Breakdown Cover and getting onboard a ferry to France. This particular market is open for one month until the end of December so there is plenty of time to enjoy the merriment. Held at the charming Place Rihour in the centre of town, the warm atmosphere the market exudes and festive adornments will lift your spirits.
There are plenty of stalls full of arts and crafts, regional delicacies and local entertainment for you to enjoy. There is even the theatre and games for young children. Children will have the opportunity to take a photo with Father Christmas – a memory to last a lifetime. Santa only visits once a year, here this date is normally the Saturday before Christmas Day. Make sure you book right away to avoid disappointment as accommodation for city breaks Europe in Lille as it is extremely popular with tourists.
You will find some great Christmas gifts on your stay here. Stock up on some fine wines and cheeses and bring some culture to the dinner table this year. If you fancy purchasing something different, choose from a selection of local delicacies.
There are also a handful of other markets around France (and Europe) which all offer something for everyone. The Alsace region is home to over 30 Christmas markets and with the French border being close to Germany, you will get to enjoy both cultures.
Get booking straight away! 2010 will be the year where you don’t end up buying your loved ones a boring pair of socks or add to their collection of woollen scarves. In other words you will have a very bon noel.
